A Unique Wedding Venue in the Heart of Durham

One of the things I love most about St Chad’s is how it blends modern design with a soft, romantic atmosphere.

The ceremony space, with its beautiful glass roof, completely transforms the feel of the room. During the day, it floods the space with natural light, creating the most dreamy setting for saying your vows. Then, as the evening sets in, the same space becomes your dance floor, where you can quite literally dance under the stars.

For couples planning a wedding in Durham or the wider North East, it’s a venue that feels both intimate and open, making it incredibly versatile to style.

Soft, Romantic Ceremony Styling

For the ceremony setup, I wanted to enhance the natural light and airy feel of the space without overwhelming it.

I chose soft dusty pink cheesecloth chair sashes to line the aisle, adding just enough colour to create warmth while keeping everything feeling light and romantic. The gentle movement of the fabric worked beautifully with the brightness from the glass ceiling, creating a soft, flowing look that felt effortless.

This kind of styling works especially well at St Chad’s, where the architecture already does so much of the work for you.

Bringing the Reception Space to Life

For the reception, I wanted to create a subtle contrast while still keeping everything cohesive.

I introduced more natural textures and greenery, using my Evie Table Trees to add height and interest across the room. These worked perfectly within the space, drawing the eye upward and complementing the open, light-filled feel of the venue.

Alongside the table trees, I styled some of the tables with bud vases and preserved roses in a dusty pink tone, tying everything back to the ceremony styling. This mix of soft florals and fresh greenery created a look that felt balanced, modern, and romantic without being overly styled.
