How to Create a Show-Stopping Wedding Aisle with Flower Meadows

How to Create a Show-Stopping Wedding Aisle with Flower Meadows blog

There’s something about walking into a wedding ceremony and seeing flowers lining the aisle that just feels special. It immediately changes the room.

And you don’t necessarily need flowers covering every chair, every table and every available surface to get that effect. One of my favourite ways to create a really beautiful ceremony setting is with flower meadows.

They bring flowers and foliage right down to floor level, creating a relaxed, abundant look around the aisle and framing the ceremony without making everything feel too formal.

Turn your aisle into part of the wedding decor

Your aisle is already one of the main focal points of the ceremony. Everyone is looking towards it, and then towards the person waiting at the end of it. So why not make something of it?

Rather than having a small arrangement tied to every chair, wedding flower meadows can be grouped along the aisle in larger, more natural-looking clusters.

I love the way this looks because it doesn't feel too arranged. Flowers spill out, foliage sits at different heights and the whole thing feels a little more like you've brought a garden into the room.

And then, of course, there's the moment you actually walk through it.

You don't need flowers everywhere

This is one of the reasons I love using meadows for wedding ceremonies.

If you want your ceremony to feel really floral, you don't necessarily need to spend a huge amount decorating every chair and every corner of the room.

Instead, you can put the flowers where they're going to have the most impact.

A few large flower meadow arrangements can completely change the look of a ceremony space, particularly in a larger room where smaller floral arrangements might get a bit lost.

They're also not just for rustic or outdoor weddings.

I love how they look in grand hotels and historic venues too. The contrast between lots of soft greenery and flowers and a more formal room can be really beautiful.

Add a backdrop and make it even bigger

Flower meadows work particularly well alongside a statement wedding arch or backdrop.

The backdrop gives you the height, while the meadow brings everything back down around the aisle.

It makes the whole ceremony area feel much more finished rather than having one floral feature floating at the front of the room.

This setup at the Royal Station Hotel in Newcastle is a good example. The white flowers and greenery soften the room without trying to compete with all of its beautiful original details.

What style of flower meadow would suit your wedding?

There's no one way to do a flower meadow. For a really classic look, you could keep things to white flowers and lots of greenery, with roses and smaller delicate flowers mixed through. If you want something more relaxed, we can make it feel much more wild and natural, with different flower shapes, textures and foliage.

And if you've chosen a particular colour palette for your wedding, your artificial wedding flowers can be styled around that too.

So whether you're getting married in a country house, a barn, a hotel in Newcastle or somewhere a little more modern, the meadow can be designed to suit the space rather than looking like something that's simply been dropped into it.

And they don't have to stay at the ceremony

One of the things couples often like about flower meadows is that they don't necessarily have to be finished with once you've said "I do".

Depending on your wedding plans, they can be moved later in the day and used elsewhere around the venue. They could frame your top table, sit around your cake table, dress an entrance or add some extra flowers to another area you'd like to draw attention to.

So your wedding aisle flowers can carry on being part of the day rather than only being seen for the twenty minutes you're walking down the aisle.

Want a wedding aisle full of flowers?

If you love the idea of a ceremony that feels romantic, full and a little bit different, a flower meadow could be a really lovely way to do it.

I create wedding flower meadows and ceremony decor for couples across the North East, including Newcastle, County Durham, Northumberland, Sunderland, Teesside and North Yorkshire.

And if you're not quite sure what would work in your venue, that's completely fine. Send me some photos of your ceremony space and we can work it out together.

Flower Meadow FAQs

How many flower meadows do I need for my wedding aisle?

It depends on the size of your ceremony space and how full you want the aisle to look. Some couples choose a few larger arrangements, while others want flowers running almost the entire length of the aisle.

Can I choose the colours?

Yes. Your flower meadow can be styled around your wedding colours and the rest of your wedding decor.

Can flower meadows be used with an arch?

Definitely. In fact, I think flower meadows with a wedding arch or backdrop make one of the biggest impacts.

Can I move the meadows after the ceremony?

Often, yes. They can be moved to another part of the venue so you can get more from your wedding decor throughout the day.

Do artificial flower meadows look real?

Good artificial flowers can look surprisingly realistic, particularly when they're mixed with lots of different foliage and textures. The aim isn't for every flower to look identical or perfectly placed, it's to create something that feels natural as a whole.

These photos were taken from a wedding shoot I did at The Royal Station Hotel Newcastle. Here's a selection of more photos.
