When Emma first got in touch, she already knew the sort of wedding she wanted.
She'd seen photos from a pastel wildflower open day I'd styled at Bradbury Glade and loved the soft colours and natural, meadow-inspired feel. So when it came to planning her own wedding at The Hidden Oak near Yarm in Stockton-on-Tees, that's the direction we took.
It was lovely seeing those original ideas become something completely their own. Nothing felt overdone. It was colourful, relaxed and suited both the venue and Emma and Jack perfectly.
A Three-Day Wedding at The Hidden Oak
One of the biggest things that stood out to me about The Hidden Oak was how relaxed everything felt.
Because couples have exclusive use of the venue for three days, there's no pressure to squeeze everything into a few hours. Friends and family can stay in the farmhouse, spend time together and actually enjoy the weekend rather than feeling like it's over in a flash.
For me, it also meant I could set everything up the day before.
By the time Emma and Jack woke up on their wedding morning, all the styling was finished. The chair sashes were tied, the candles were in place, every table was dressed and all the preserved and dried flowers were exactly where they needed to be.
It's one of those little things couples don't always think about when they're choosing a venue, but it makes such a difference. Instead of suppliers rushing around while everyone's getting ready, everything is already there waiting.
A Pastel Wildflower Theme
Emma wanted the styling to feel like a meadow in summer. Soft, colourful and natural rather than formal.
I used blush pinks, peaches, lilacs, creams and little pops of blue to create a pastel wildflower palette that worked beautifully against the neutral interiors of The Hidden Oak.
The tables were styled with flowing blush runners, preserved and dried flowers, bud vases, candles and wildflower stationery. None of it was designed to steal the show on its own. It was all about layering lots of smaller details that worked together.
Walking into the room, your eye didn't settle on one thing. It wandered across the tables, picking up all those little textures and colours instead.
Styling the Ceremony
For the ceremony, I dressed my Willow Arch with extra wildflowers to tie it into the rest of the styling.
Set against the countryside, it didn't need loads adding to it. The view was already doing a lot of the work, so the flowers just softened the space and framed Emma and Jack as they said their vows.
We carried those same flowers over to my Moon Backdrop too, so everything felt connected as guests moved through the day.
I always like repeating flowers and colours throughout a wedding. It stops each area feeling completely separate and makes the whole day flow naturally.
Making the Styling Personal
One of my favourite details was actually something changed from the norm.
Instead of using my Prosecco Wall for prosecco, Emma and Jack asked if I could turn it into a snack wall instead.
I swapped the glass shelves for flat wooden ones and filled them with crisps, chocolates and sweets for guests to help themselves.
I love ideas like that.
It's still the same prop, just used in a completely different way, and it suited them so much better than having a drinks station.
Why I Loved Styling at The Hidden Oak
This wasn't my first wedding at The Hidden Oak and with more to come.
Some venues almost compete with your styling, but this one doesn't.
The interiors are bright and simple, the ceremony space opens straight onto the countryside and wherever you look you can see trees and fields. It gives you a beautiful backdrop without feeling like you have to style around the venue itself.
For a theme like Emma and Jack's pastel wildflowers, it couldn't have worked better.
Looking Back
Emma and Jack's wedding is one I'll remember for a long time.
Not because it was the biggest or the most extravagant, but because everything just made sense. The venue, the colours, the flowers and all the little personal touches felt like they belonged together.
Knowing it all started because Emma saw photos from a styled open day months before makes it even more special. Watching those first ideas turn into a real wedding is one of my favourite parts of this job.
