A Sustainable Summer Wedding at Danby Castle

A Sustainable Summer Wedding at Danby Castle Blog

Some weddings stay with you long after the day is over, and this beautiful 2025 summer celebration at Danby Castle is one I’ll never forget. From the couple’s shared commitment to sustainability, to the breathtaking Yorkshire views, to the most joyful sing-along to Unwritten by Natasha Bedingfield, it was the kind of day that reminds me exactly why I love what I do.

A Wedding With a Focus on Sustainability

The couple had a clear ethos from the very start: they wanted their wedding to be beautiful, meaningful, and as low-impact as possible. The bride, who runs her own sustainability-focused Instagram page @thethriftyedit_, approached every decision thoughtfully, choosing trusted suppliers who shared her values.

I was thrilled to be part of a team that included:

  • Yorkshire Rose Events, the go to person for organising events with a sustainable ethos

  • Dried Wild, whose natural, dried bouquet complemented the day perfectly

  • Wild Fern Weddings (me!), providing decor hire and on-the-day coordination

My Role: Decor + On-the-Day Coordination

For this wedding, I had the pleasure of supporting the couple in two ways: Providing decor and coordinating the full day from morning until evening. The coordination element was incredibly important for them, they wanted to relax and stay present, knowing everything behind the scenes was being handled.

Some of the tasks I managed included:

  • Keeping the timeline running smoothly (no small feat when everyone’s having a great time!)

  • Liaising with suppliers and the venue team

  • Organising the couple’s brilliant Dungeons & Dragons themed drink token system, ensuring each guest received their personalised set

  • Overseeing guest timings, speeches, transitions, and little moments that matter

It’s these details, the ones that don’t show up on the Instagram grid, that make a wedding day feel effortless for the couple and their families.

Danby Castle: Sun, Stone & Those Unbelievable Yorkshire Views

Danby Castle is always magical, but on this summer day? It was spectacular. Clear skies, sunshine, rolling green hills, Yorkshire truly showed off.

Between coordinating and styling, I found myself pausing more than once to take in the landscape. And instead of driving home that night, I made the decision to set up my TentBox on a quiet layby with stunning views not far from the venue and slept under a sky full of stars. It’s a moment of calm I’ll always remember.

A Memory I’ll Always Treasure

Every wedding has a moment that anchors itself in your heart. For this one, it was the band launching into “Unwritten” by Natasha Bedingfield. Picture it: the courtyard filled with sunshine, guests singing their hearts out, and that unmistakable feeling that everyone was exactly where they were supposed to be. As a coordinator and stylist, you often witness these tiny pockets of magic, but this one is firmly planted in my top-tier memories.

The Perfect Earth-Friendly Wedding

This Danby Castle wedding wasn’t just beautiful, it was intentional, personal, and packed with character. The couple stayed true to themselves, kept sustainability at the centre of their decisions, and created a day that felt like a reflection of their values and their story.

I’m so grateful to have been part of it.
